Guten Tag

As I sit and write this I am drinking a glass of wine overlooking the city of Berlin. Rhonda is thrilled that she can once again enjoy Pepsi Light - Paris was a dry county for it.

We started the day very early as we embarked for the Gare Du Est station. Our train pulled out of Paris and headed for Frankfurt. We all admitted that the train system over here is fantastic - we enjoyed a nice breakfast and the vast country scenery at speeds upto 197km/h.

Once in Frankfurt we had 17 minutes to catch our Berlin bound train - one would think this would be a challenge, but it was all seamless.

After the 8 hours on board the trains we arrived in Berlin at the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof. It is a beautiful station and only a short taxi to our hotel - the Berlin Marriott.

We lucked out again as the hotel is smack down in the middle of the Potsdamer Platz - shopping, food and fun.
Joey thinks the best part is that we are across the street from the Canadian Embassy.

Ironically we ended up doing our usual modus operandi and grabbed dinner at the hotel restaurant the Midtown Grill - we each enjoyed some of the best steaks to date.

The 3 Amigo's at the Midtown Grill

I don't know if you can see it but the menus are about half a metre in length. Being the true tourists, we ordered a couple of huge desserts (American sized portions) and when the bill arrives they bring out some marshmallows to roast and dip in chocolate - what a great idea.

As we walked around the area there is also some remnants of the Berlin wall that were interesting.

Tomorrow morning we are going to hop on the city tour then take a boat down the river Spree. After that we are going to circle back and take in the Brandenburg Gate,Checkpoint Charlie and the Reichstag.

I think i'll have another wine and cheese.

Guten Nagen.
