Strolling & Enjoying everything Vienna has to Offer

This morning we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast at our hotel, which included a selection of sweet breads (yummy!!), assorted deli meats, fruit and eggs prepared as you requested.

Then it was off to catch the Vienna sightseeing bus, which we rode for all 3 routes enjoying the State Opera house, Heroes' Square, the University, St. Stephan's Cathedral, Kursalon, Prater (Giant Ferris Wheel), Danube, UNO city, etc...etc.....

Vienna is the city of music (Mozart) and cakes & cream. This is a picture of the new art nouveau city park centre in Stadtpark. In fact, one of the houses that Mozart lived in from 1784 to 1787 is right beside our hotel.

The streets here are lined with these apartment houses that had to be built quickly after the WWII. They are just fantastic and the lanes between them are typically only wide enough for one car at a time.

Between these apartment houses are unique passage ways that are only open during the day. The passages save an enormous amount of time when you are trying to walk from street to street.

After riding the buses for over 3 hours, we were in desperate need of some drinks and treats. We found a great little cafe, Cafe Aida. Joey enjoyed a sundae that was as large as him. Jim enjoyed his usual, a beer.

I, on the other hand, enjoyed the jumbo Cafe au Lait and Vienna's finest - Sachertorte. It was great to sit and enjoy these treats, and watch the people go by. This is the 5th most visited city in the world, so the streets are filled with tourists.

Later....we enjoyed a stroll through Stadtpark. This picture is taken as you enter the park. It was a beautiful day here today reaching almost 35C (on average it is usually 20C here during July).

We found way too many great treats today. The Mozartkugel (Mozart chocolates) are very popular here, but we found the white chocolate version of them at Lipizzaner just up the street from our hotel. We also stumbled on the Manner wafer store, and bought apricot, vanilla and vienna coffee wafers. They melt in your mouth.

For dinner it was off to the Gulaschmuseum. They serve over 15 types of gulasch including a chocolate gulasch for dessert. Their ice coffee, for dessert, consists of Vienesse coffee with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and then covered in whip cream. I think this city could do some serious damage to one's waist line!!!

Tomorrow it is off to tour the Schonbrunn Palace and visit the Heeresgesch (Military History) Museum.
